What is the Best Metal for
Siding and Roofing?
When it comes to the type of metal siding and roofing to select from, there are two options: Galvanized and Galvalume®.
Galvanized metal is a sheet of steel that has been coated with a thin layer of zinc oxide. The zinc is applied to protect the steel from the elements that can lead to corrosion and rust. This corrosion and rust will eventually weaken the metal and lead to a complete breakdown of the steel. Galvanized metal may begin to breakdown within 10 to 15 years of element exposure.
This corrosion isn’t immediate with galvanized metal. Initially, galvanized metal maintains its appearance even better than Galvalume metal. But this initial appearance begins to deteriorate – doing so fairly quickly.
The zinc coating begins to corrode at the cut edge and over time it completely corrodes the entire surface of the steel. This effect continues across the entire span of the metal, resulting in major repair and replacement expense.

Controlling Condensation
When the temperature and humidity conditions reach the dew point, moisture condenses on the underside of an uninsulated metal roof. Drops of water will then form and start to fall, causing damage to the contents below. The traditional method for dealing with condensation is to try and insulate the roof so that the temperature on the panel never reaches the dew point.
The roof panel with DRIPSTOP™ anti-condensation felt provides a medium for trapping this moisture in the specially designed pockets formed in the membrane. DRIPSTOP™ holds that moisture until conditions go back below the dew point and it is released back into the air in the form of normal humidity.
